Gunfire erupts at crowded Orange County campgrounds; 3 people hospitalized

Three people were rushed to the hospital after a shooting Sunday at a family-friendly event at Orange County park, officials with the Orange County Sheriff’s Department announced.

Details are extremely limited and it’s unclear just how the shooting at Featherly Regional Park, located at 24001 E. Santa Ana Canyon Road in Yorba Linda, unfolded.

In a post to X, formerly Twitter, sheriff’s officials said that three people suffering gunshot wounds, including the suspect, were taken to the hospital in unknown condition.

“At this time, we believe the individuals involved all knew each other,” officials added. “We will update with more info as we are able.”

In footage from the scene obtained by KTLA, a heavy law enforcement presence can be seen in the park’s campgrounds, along with an area of the park cordoned off with yellow crime-scene tape.

Andrea Montano, a parkgoer visiting from Lake Elsinore for what she described as an event for Volkswagen enthusiasts, said nothing like this has ever happened in the years she and her family have been coming to the event.

As she was walking her kids to the rope course, where she said a 9-year-old girl was having a birthday party and that around 25 to 30 kids were playing, gunshots rang out followed by screams for everyone to take cover and get on the ground.

“I heard the shots right away and of course you’re looking to see where they’re coming from, so I told my daughter to get in the RV and we were just waiting to see what was happening, what was going to transpire,” she explained.
