Fox News host Brian Kilmeade correctly reported on Friday morning that outgoing Rep. Bob Good (R-Va.) will not be voting for House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) in Friday’s speaker election.
But that’s because Good lost his primary last year and will not be part of the 119th Congress.
“Well, I got bad news,” Kilmeade informed Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) on “Fox & Friends.” “Congressman Bob Good just tweeted out he will not be voting for Mike Johnson.”
(Good, apparently trolling, did indeed tweet that out.)
“Well, remember, Brian, Bob Good has left,” Jordan replied.
“Uh, can we check that?” Kilmeade asked his producers.
“Bob Good lost that close primary back in that Virginia seat,” Jordan said. “John McGuire is the new member there. John will be voting for Mike Johnson for speaker.”
“So I think, I think it’s still just Thomas Massie who’s indicated he won’t support the speaker. But I’m hopeful that everyone else will,” Jordan added.
“All right, good point,” said Kilmeade. “He’s not there anymore, so I shouldn’t have brought that up. My bad.”
The 118th Congress draws to a close and the new Congress convenes for the first time on Friday. The first item on the agenda is electing a new speaker.
Rep. Thomas Massie (R-Ky.) has indicated he will not vote for Johnson. With an extremely narrow GOP majority, that puts Johnson’s speakership at high risk.
