Although technically we’re still a couple of months away from the start of spring, this week’s warmer weather and brighter days has me ready to embrace the new season ahead of time. Clearly on a similar wavelength, this week I spotted Cameron Diaz at a red carpet event styling the exact jeans-and-flat-shoe combination I’m saving for early spring.
Forgoing the silky dresses and tall heels that red-carpet events usually call for, Diaz went in a decidedly casual—yet immensely chic—direction with her event dressing. Selecting the denim trend that’s set to shine next season, Diaz pulled a pair of deep indigo high-waisted jeans, pairing them with a simple and sophisticated black leather loafer.

Once we’re finally free from having to style wool trousers and heavy-soled boots day in and day out, it’s this specific denim and shoe trend that’s primed to take over. Still rich and moody enough to feel fitting for winter’s final days, the loafers also make this combination feel less heavy and more comfortable for the warmer days on the horizon.
A little less obvious than the lighter shades of denim that typically settle into the fore come spring, this elegant alternative is one of my favourites to wear across the warmer months. Making denim feel so much more sophisticated, this growing trend styles incredibly well with an elegant top, such as Cameron’s chic scarf blouse, but also looks very chic worn with a white t-shirt or a warm knit.
